Position Summary: Directly responsible for overall mechanical engineering of assigned thermal dryer projects including planning, project engineering, layouts, and cost control.
Performs design modifications necessary to accomplish specific project equipment specifications within cost and schedule guidelines.
Assures total configuration control and traceability of all project components.
Principle Duties: Understands, creates, and maintains project PID (piping and instrumentation diagrams), PFD (process flow diagrams), mechanical layout drawings, engineering schedule, scope of supply etc.
Supports Project Management and Sales to assure customer and contract satisfaction while maintaining system integrity and safety.
Create 3D models of dryer system layouts as well as 2D files and drawings for specific projects.
Maintain design traceability of standard dryer equipment as well as specific project related modifications.
For each project assigned - works closely and collaboratively with engineering managers, mechanical engineers, project managers, electrical engineers, and process engineers to execute project in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Specifies, selects, recommends, and approves components.
Supports Purchasing and Quality Control in determining vendor product acceptability.
Attends project meetings with customers, engineers, vendors, and manufacturers.
Approves/certifies mechanical design calculations.
Initiates mechanical Bills of Materials through established policies and procedures for release to production.
Ability to identify, evaluate and correct potential mechanical problems as well as communicate corrective actions to appropriate parties.
Support Dryer Sales engineers during bid phase by preparing preliminary equipment layouts, PDS and PFDs, and equipment costs.
Prepare detailed fabrication drawing sets as required based on 3D Inventor model.
Using thermal process knowledge prepare operating sequences and control loop descriptions for use by control and software engineers.
Ensure electrical engineer and controls engineer are kept up to date on mechanical equipment specifications that impact their part of the project.
Maintains all dryer project related engineering documentation in digital form on Andritz network using existing practices for folder structure and contents with goal that the information is readily accessible during the project and beyond.
Inspects - during project execution phase and as required by the project manager visit job sites to inspect installation work, answer contractor questions, provide technical guidance to Andritz on site personnel, and resolve problems, responds to Andritz QC department questions related to dryer projects.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven experience in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of three years related experience in design engineering using basic knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
Inventor/Vault/SAP/AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD Mechanical and Microsoft Office software knowledge.
Ability to interpret and communicate technical needs at all levels of personnel and management.
Knowledge of basic machine/fabrication/welding shop techniques and methods.
Cost estimating experience.
Basic knowledge of engineering Bills of Material structure.
Must be able to self-organize and manage time.
Ability to multitask is a must.
Follow corporate and group level procedures for AutoCAD/ Inventor/ Vault/AVEVA E3D.
Basic knowledge of FEA analysis techniques.
Ability to work with and maintain digital files (CAD, PDF, WORD, PPT, EXCEL, STEP, NAV etc.
) Ability to understand and use existing Andritz tools and calculation methods for project fulfillment.
Must be able to identify, evaluate and correct potential mechanical problems as well as communicate corrective actions to stakeholders in a manner that is appropriate and focused on resolving the problem and avoiding future occurrences by improved engineering procedures/ documentation.
Ability to work for extended periods using a desktop computer (normally sitting) Willing to put in extra time when needed.
Ability to be self-motivated as well as the ability to take directions well.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Ability to do simple structural stress analysis and calculations either by hand and/or via available Andritz FEA tools.
Basic understanding of drafting standards, weld symbols, and tolerances.
Ability to visit customer and vendor facilities and follow all required safety protocols.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders as required at job sites, able to wear required PPE during job site visits, and follow all required safety rules and regulations while at job sites.
Ability to read, understand, and apply codes, standards, and specifications according to project requirements.
