*POSITION: Sterile Processing Technician*
*DEPARTMENT: ALL Areas of Clinical Operations*
*SUMMARY DESCRIPTION*
Under the direct supervision of the Lead Surgical Technician and Nursing Supervisor, the Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments.
The Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for helping to maintain the supplies inventory.
*RESPONSIBILITIES*
1.
Cleans and decontaminates patient use items by taking apart instruments, rinsing, and soaking instruments and using washing/sterilization equipment as per the Manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU).
2.
Assembles, packages and/or terminally sterilizes patient use items.
3.
Keeps required and stringent records such as biological testing records and unit checks for outdated packages as per Manufacturer’s guidelines.
4.
Performs required environmental and/or equipment maintenance procedures.
5.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
1.
High school graduate.
2.
Completion of an appropriate technician program or previous technician experience of at least two years.
3.
CPR certification within probationary period.
4.
One-year previous sterilization experience preferred.
5.
Must be able to adapt to repetitive, short cycle operations.
6.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work.
7.
Must have some mechanical ability to operate large equipment, to disassemble and assemble instruments, and have some familiarity with surgical instrumentation.
8.
Must be able to work well with others
9.
Demonstrates knowledge and support for the principles of good guest relations in their daily activities and contacts with others.
*WORKING CONDITIONS*
1.
In normal working day, an employee may stand 4-6 hours, walk 3 hours, and sit 1 hour.
2.
Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling, and pushing of carts, equipment, etc.
Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
3.
Able to lift/carry up to approximately 25 pounds.
4.
The use of hands requires fine manipulation.
5.
Will work around contaminated supplies/instrumentation/equipment.
6.
Will have exposure to hazardous chemicals.
The Central Sterilization Technician is classified as a non-exempt employee and is eligible for overtime pay according to the provisions stated in the surgery center’s personnel policies.
